Description

A lighter take on the classic Japanese dish, this Air Fryer Agedashi Tofu features crispy golden tofu served with a flavorful umami-rich dashi-based sauce, perfect as an appetizer or light meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu (14 oz), pressed and cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Cooking spray or oil for air frying
  • 1 cup dashi broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 green onion, finely sliced
  • Grated daikon (optional)
  • Bonito flakes (optional, omit for vegetarian)

Instructions

  1. Press tofu for at least 20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Lightly coat each tofu piece in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray the basket with oil, place tofu cubes inside, and air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crispy.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine dashi, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  5. Place air-fried tofu in serving bowls and pour warm sauce over them. Top with green onions, grated daikon, and bonito flakes if desired.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetarian dashi and omit bonito flakes.
  • Make sure tofu is well-pressed to ensure crispiness.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy texture.
