Description

A rustic and comforting Apple Cheddar Galette made with tart apples, sharp cheddar, and a golden, flaky crust. Sweet and savory in perfect harmony.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons ice water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough comes together. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on parchment. Transfer to baking sheet.
  4. In another bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar over the dough center, leaving a 2-inch border. Layer apples over cheese.
  6. Fold edges of dough over filling, pleating as needed. Brush crust with egg wash.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until crust is golden and apples are tender.
  8. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough well for a flakier crust.
  • Use fresh shredded cheddar for the best melt and flavor.
  • Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or a drizzle of honey.
