- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3 to 5 tablespoons ice water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough comes together. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on parchment. Transfer to baking sheet.
- In another bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch.
- Sprinkle cheddar over the dough center, leaving a 2-inch border. Layer apples over cheese.
- Fold edges of dough over filling, pleating as needed. Brush crust with egg wash.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until crust is golden and apples are tender.
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Chill the dough well for a flakier crust.
- Use fresh shredded cheddar for the best melt and flavor.
- Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or a drizzle of honey.
