Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter (softened for cake, chilled for crumble)
- 2 large Eggs
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 3 medium Apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar (for crumble)
- 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (for crumble)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper.
- Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the pan and smooth the top. Layer sliced apples evenly over the batter.
- In another bowl, combine chilled butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and a pinch of cinnamon. Mix with fingers until crumbly, then sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the topping is golden.
- Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast.
- Chill the crumble mixture before sprinkling to enhance texture.
- Toss apples with a bit of flour if they’re extra juicy to avoid sogginess.
