Description

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • ¾ cup Warm Milk
  • ¼ cup Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 2 large Eggs
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 medium Granny Smith Apples, diced
  • ⅓ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • ¼ tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • Vegetable Oil for frying
  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110°F and proof the yeast for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add eggs, butter, milk, and yeast. Mix into a soft dough and knead for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Lightly grease a bowl, place the dough inside, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1½ hours or until doubled.
  4. Roll dough to about ½ inch thick. Cut with donut cutter. Let rise again for 30 minutes while you prepare the filling.
  5. To make filling, cook diced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, nutmeg, and cornstarch in a saucepan until tender and thickened. Let cool.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry donuts for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on a cooling rack.
  7. Roll warm donuts in cinnamon sugar. Fill each donut with the chilled apple mixture using a spoon or piping bag.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature at 350°F.
  • Chill the filling before piping to prevent leakage.
  • Store in an airtight container and reheat in a low oven before serving.
