Description
Batata Harra is a spicy Middle Eastern potato dish made with crispy fried or roasted potatoes tossed in garlic, cilantro, chili, and lemon juice. It’s bold, flavorful, and perfect as a side or appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red chili, finely chopped (or 1/2 tsp red chili flakes)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (coriander leaves)
Instructions
- Boil the diced potatoes in salted water for about 5–7 minutes until slightly tender but not fully cooked. Drain well.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the potatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden and crispy on all sides (about 10–15 minutes).
- Reduce heat to medium. Add garlic, chopped chili, paprika, cumin, and coriander. Stir well to coat the potatoes evenly.
- Cook for 2–3 more minutes until fragrant, then remove from heat.
- Toss in the lemon juice and chopped cilantro. Adjust salt to taste.
- Serve hot or warm as a side dish or appetizer.
Notes
- For a healthier version, roast the potatoes in the oven at 425°F (220°C) for 25–30 minutes instead of frying.
- You can add green bell peppers or onions for extra flavor and texture.
- Use less chili if you prefer a milder taste.
