Description

Juicy beef burgers layered with melted American cheese, caramelized plantain, crispy beef bacon, and fresh toppings, all served in soft brioche buns with a creamy tangy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g beef mince, preferably 20% fat
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 rashers beef bacon
  • 1 large ripe plantain, cut into diagonal slices
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil or sunflower oil
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large beef tomato, sliced into 4 slices
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon American yellow mustard
  • 1 gherkin, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and divide into 4 equal portions, then shape into patties.
  3. Lightly coat the plantain slices with the oil.
  4. Place the patties in the air fryer basket with space between them. Add the beef bacon and plantain slices around the patties, cooking in batches if necessary.
  5. Cook for 8 minutes, adding a slice of American cheese to each patty after 6 minutes so it melts evenly.
  6. While cooking, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and chopped gherkin in a small bowl to make the sauce.
  7. Lightly toast the brioche buns if desired.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce and tomato on the bottom buns, then the cheese-covered patties, followed by beef bacon and plantain slices.
  9. Spread the sauce on the top buns, close the burgers, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Choose a ripe but firm plantain for the best texture and flavor.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer to ensure even cooking and browning.
  • The sauce can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor balance.
