Description
These Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples are a spooky and delicious Halloween treat with a dark, glossy candy coating swirled with eerie black accents. Perfect for adding a mysterious twist to your festive celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Fuji work well), washed and dried
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon black food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional for swirl effect)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Wooden sticks or skewers
- Vegetable oil or non-stick spray (for coating)
Instructions
- Insert wooden sticks firmly into the tops of the apples and lightly grease the apples with vegetable oil to help the candy coating stick.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Attach a candy thermometer and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and carefully stir in vanilla extract and black food coloring. For swirl effect, divide the syrup into two portions and add red food coloring to one portion.
- Dip each apple into the black candy syrup, swirling to coat evenly. For a swirl effect, drizzle the red candy syrup over the black coating immediately after dipping.
- Place the coated apples on a greased baking sheet or parchment paper to cool and harden.
- Allow candy coating to set completely before serving.
Notes
- Use caution when working with hot sugar syrup to avoid burns.
- Adjust food coloring intensity for desired darkness and swirl effect.
- Store apples in a cool, dry place to prevent melting or stickiness.
