Description

Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples are a spooky and dramatic twist on a classic Halloween treat. These glossy black apples with swirling patterns are perfect for parties, haunted events, or simply for those who love a dark aesthetic with a sweet crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 small to medium apples (preferably Granny Smith or Gala)
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black gel food coloring
  • 1/4 teaspoon white gel or silver edible paint (for swirling effect, optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon extract or vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks into the tops of the apples. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Once dissolved, insert a candy thermometer and stop stirring. Allow the mixture to boil until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat immediately. Add black gel food coloring and extract (if using), then swirl in white or silver paint for a marbled effect—do not stir too much.
  5. Working quickly, tilt the pan and dip each apple into the candy coating, swirling to cover completely. Let the excess drip off.
  6. Place dipped apples on the prepared baking sheet and let them cool and harden completely.
  7. Serve or wrap in clear cellophane bags for a spooky gift.

Notes

  • Be cautious when working with hot sugar—it can cause serious burns.
  • Use gel food coloring for intense color without affecting texture.
  • Decorate with edible glitter or drizzle with contrasting candy colors for more flair.
