  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp bourbon
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks or chopped dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until well mixed.
  4. Add the eggs, bourbon, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in the salt and flour until just combined—do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the pecans and chocolate chunks.
  7. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
