Description

Tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory beef and rice filling, baked in a rich tomato sauce until soft, hearty, and full of comforting flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C and prepare a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, paprika, and parsley. Mix well until evenly combined.
  3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully soften the cabbage leaves until tender. Remove and let cool.
  4. Place a portion of filling onto each cabbage leaf, roll tightly, and arrange them neatly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix tomato sauce with tomato paste, then pour evenly over the cabbage rolls.
  6. Cover and bake for 1 hour until the cabbage is tender and the filling is fully cooked.
  7. Remove from oven, let rest for a few minutes, then serve warm with extra sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overfill the cabbage leaves to keep them easy to roll
  • Boil cabbage leaves until soft to prevent tearing
  • Keep rolls tightly packed in the dish for best shape
  • Add a little water if the sauce becomes too thick during cooking
