Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dough:
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- For the Filling:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- For the Caramel Topping:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the remaining sugar, melted butter, salt, egg, and 3 cups of flour. Mix until dough forms. Add more flour if needed.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, make the caramel topping. In a saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and cream over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2–3 minutes. Pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
- Roll out the risen dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread with softened butter, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Place the rolls cut side down into the prepared baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the buns cool for 5 minutes, then carefully invert the pan onto a serving tray to let the caramel and pecans coat the tops.
- Serve warm and enjoy the gooey deliciousness!
Notes
- You can make the dough the night before and refrigerate it for a slower rise.
- Use chopped walnuts instead of pecans if preferred.
- For extra shine, brush the tops with a bit of melted butter after baking.
