Description
A savory twist on the classic meatloaf, inspired by Philly cheesesteaks — loaded with sautéed peppers, onions, and melty cheese, topped with sliced steak and baked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small red bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking dish with parchment paper or foil.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions until soft, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, sautéed vegetables, and half the cheese. Mix just until combined.
- Form into a loaf in the prepared dish. Top with sliced steak and remaining cheese.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use sautéed mushrooms for extra depth of flavor.
- Try using Cheez Whiz or American cheese for a more authentic Philly twist.
- Leftovers make great sandwiches the next day.
