Description

A savory and elegant dish featuring tender chicken breasts wrapped in golden puff pastry, served with a rich mustard cream sauce — perfect for a special occasion or cozy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sear chicken for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly browned (not cooked through). Remove and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface and cut into two equal rectangles.
  5. Place one chicken breast in the center of each pastry piece. Fold and seal edges, brushing with egg wash to seal.
  6. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet, brush tops with more egg wash, and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and chicken is cooked through.
  7. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chicken broth and let simmer for 2 minutes.
  8. Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and whole grain mustard. Simmer until thickened (5–7 minutes), then season with salt, pepper, and thyme if using.
  9. Serve chicken pastries hot with mustard cream sauce spooned over the top.

Notes

  • You can add a slice of ham or sautéed mushrooms inside the pastry with the chicken for extra flavor.
  • Make sure the puff pastry is well sealed to prevent leaks.
  • The sauce can be made ahead and reheated gently before serving.
