Description

Warm, fluffy, and coated in cinnamon sugar, these Chocolate & Cinnamon Donuts are a cozy treat perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 cups – gives structure while keeping the donuts tender.
  • Granulated Sugar: 1/2 cup – adds sweetness and helps with browning.
  • Cocoa Powder: 1/3 cup – provides deep chocolate flavor.
  • Baking Powder: 2 teaspoons – creates lift for light, airy donuts.
  • Ground Cinnamon: 2 teaspoons – warms up the chocolate and adds spice.
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon – enhances all the other flavors.
  • Whole Milk: 3/4 cup – adds moisture and richness.
  • Egg: 1 large – binds the batter and adds lightness.
  • Unsalted Butter (melted): 1/4 cup – gives richness and that melt-in-your-mouth quality.
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon – rounds out the chocolate with fragrant depth.
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying): about 4 cups – for golden, crispy results.
  • Cinnamon Sugar (for coating): 1/2 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon – the final, irresistible touch.

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F. Use a thermometer for accuracy.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, mix milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Pour wet into dry and stir until just combined.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Line a baking sheet with parchment. Dust your work surface lightly with flour.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Roll dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into donuts using cutters. Reroll scraps as needed.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Carefully drop donuts into hot oil, 2–3 at a time. Fry 1–2 minutes per side until puffed and deep brown. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  6. Finishing Touches: While still warm, toss donuts in cinnamon sugar until generously coated.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Best enjoyed fresh and warm, ideally with a mug of something cozy nearby.

Notes

  • Keep dough slightly sticky for tender results.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain ideal frying temperature.
  • Sift cocoa powder to prevent lumps in the batter.
