Description

A rich and comforting chocolate bread pudding swirled with creamy pockets of tangy cream cheese, baked until soft and custardy inside with a lightly crisp golden top.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups day old brioche bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Spread the brioche bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Pour the chocolate custard mixture over the bread and gently press down to help it absorb. Evenly scatter cream cheese cubes and chocolate chips over the top.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the center is just set and the top is lightly golden.
  6. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Let the bread soak in the custard for 10 to 15 minutes before baking for best texture.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese for smoother melting.
  • If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil.
