Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9×5 loaf pan or Bundt pan with butter and dust with cocoa powder.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk into the wet mixture, starting and ending with the dry. Mix just until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Slice and serve as desired.
