- 6 thick slices white bread, cut into cubes
- 1 1/2 cups diced ham
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish.
- Arrange bread cubes, diced ham, and shredded Gruyère in casserole.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl and pour evenly over the casserole.
- For béchamel, melt butter in a saucepan, add flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 1 cup milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Pour béchamel sauce evenly over casserole.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and bubbly on top.
- Remove from oven, let rest 10 minutes, then serve warm.
