Description

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar, let sit until foamy (5 minutes).
  3. Mix flour, granulated sugar, salt, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth, about 8 minutes.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down dough, roll into a rectangle, brush with butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Fold or twist, then place into loaf pan. Score the top.
  6. Bake 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and fragrant.
  7. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing. Drizzle over warm bread and serve.

  • Use a thermometer to ensure water is around 110°F for activating yeast.
  • Don’t rush the rise—letting the dough double naturally gives the best texture.
