Description
A simple and foolproof recipe for soft and fluffy homemade white bread, perfect for sandwiches or toasted with butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup warm milk
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, warm milk, butter, and oil.
- Mix together until the dough comes together, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes, or until it has risen just above the top of the pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy fresh or toasted!
Notes
- For extra softness, you can brush the top of the bread with butter as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- This bread can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
- Feel free to add herbs or garlic for extra flavor.
