Description
Easy Orange Curd is a smooth, tangy, and sweet spread made from fresh orange juice and zest, perfect for topping toast, scones, or adding a citrusy twist to desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, orange juice, and zest until smooth.
- Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler), making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water.
- Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 10–15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the butter pieces until fully melted and incorporated.
- Pour the curd into a clean jar or container and let it cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Keeps well for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
Notes
- Use fresh orange juice and zest for the best flavor.
- Stir continuously to prevent curdling or lumps.
- This curd can also be made with lemons or limes for variation.
