Description
A cozy, nostalgic breakfast classic made with golden toasted bread and a perfectly cooked egg nestled right in the center. Crispy on the outside and tender in the middle, this simple dish delivers buttery flavor and comforting texture in every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 slice white sandwich bread
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Use a round cutter or the rim of a glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread slice. Crack the egg into a small bowl and set aside.
- Place a nonstick skillet over medium heat and allow it to warm for about 1 minute.
- Add 1 tablespoon unsalted butter to the skillet and let it melt completely, coating the surface evenly.
- Place the bread slice into the skillet and carefully pour the egg into the hole in the center.
- Sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper evenly over the egg.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the bottom is golden and the egg whites begin to set.
- If desired, gently flip and cook an additional 1 to 2 minutes for a firmer yolk.
- Remove from the skillet once the egg reaches your preferred doneness and serve immediately.
Notes
- Keep the heat at medium to prevent the bread from burning before the egg sets.
- Cover the skillet briefly if you want the egg whites to cook faster without flipping.
- Toast the cut-out bread circle in the same pan for an extra crispy bite.
