Description

A golden, flaky puff pastry plait filled with sweet caramelized red onions and tangy feta cheese. Perfect for brunch, lunch, or a cozy dinner, this savory bake brings together simple ingredients in a beautifully braided presentation.


Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry Sheet: 1 large sheet (approx. 320g)
  • Red Onions: 2 medium, thinly sliced
  • Feta Cheese: 200g, crumbled
  • Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh Thyme: 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Egg Yolk: 1, beaten with 1 teaspoon of milk
  • Black Sesame Seeds: 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced red onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 15-20 minutes until caramelized. Stir in thyme and let cool slightly.
  3. Unroll puff pastry onto a floured surface or parchment paper. Lightly mark the center third lengthwise.
  4. Spread the onion mixture down the center and top with crumbled feta. Cut diagonal strips on each side and fold over in a braid pattern.
  5. Transfer to baking sheet. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds if using.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  7. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
