Ingredients
Scale
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk, warm
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. If your kitchen is cold, turn the oven off after a few minutes to create a warm spot for rising.
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, honey, warm milk, egg, melted butter, and the activated yeast mixture until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Grease a 9-inch round baking dish with olive oil. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into balls. Arrange them in the pan.
- Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and they sound hollow when tapped.
- Brush warm rolls with additional melted honey butter immediately after baking.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm.
Notes
- Use bread flour for an even fluffier texture.
- You can refrigerate shaped dough overnight for a slower rise and more flavor.
- Add herbs or garlic to the dough for a savory twist.
- Freeze leftovers and reheat in foil at 300°F for 10 minutes.
