Description

A cozy, make-ahead French Toast Casserole featuring buttery brioche soaked in cinnamon-vanilla custard, baked until golden and topped with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf brioche bread (about 14 oz), cut into cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until fully combined.
  3. Spread the cubed brioche evenly in the prepared dish.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, gently pressing to ensure it soaks evenly. Dot the top with butter pieces.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with warm maple syrup.

Notes

  • Use day-old brioche or challah for best texture.
  • Chill overnight to let flavors fully soak in.
  • For added crunch, top with chopped nuts or streusel before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven to preserve crispiness.
