Description
A rustic and crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring a crusty sourdough bread bowl filled with creamy, melted camembert infused with garlic and fresh herbs, perfect for dipping and sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 8 inches wide)
- 1 whole camembert cheese wheel (about 250g)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 2 tablespoons cranberry sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with olive oil. Stir in garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let infuse for 2–3 minutes. Set aside.
- Slice the top off the bread loaf and carefully hollow out the center, keeping the bottom intact.
- Place the camembert wheel into the hollowed-out bread. Add cranberry sauce on top if using. Brush the inside and edges with the garlic herb butter.
- Wrap the bread loosely in foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes until the top is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Garnish with extra herbs if desired. Serve immediately with dippers of your choice.
Notes
- Let the cheese sit at room temperature before baking for even melting.
- Use high-quality sourdough to prevent sogginess.
- Optional: Add toppings like fig jam or caramelized onions before baking.
