Description
Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and custardy on the inside, this Grilled French Toast is a cozy breakfast classic made with brioche, warm cinnamon, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Perfect for slow mornings or weekend brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 thick slices brioche bread, slightly stale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup maple syrup, for serving
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully combined.
- Add a portion of the unsalted butter to the skillet and allow it to melt, coating the surface evenly.
- Dip each slice of brioche bread into the custard mixture, soaking for 20 to 30 seconds per side.
- Place the soaked bread onto the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Repeat with remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.
- Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh strawberries, and fresh blueberries.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for best texture and structure.
- Cook over medium heat to avoid burning the outside before the inside sets.
- Keep cooked slices warm in a low oven while preparing the remaining batches.
- Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing the sugar in the custard mixture.
