Description

A sophisticated twist on the classic grilled cheese, featuring artisan bread, a blend of gourmet cheeses, and flavorful add-ins like caramelized onions and tomatoes.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices artisan bread (like sourdough or multigrain)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup caramelized onions
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  2. On the unbuttered sides, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard if using.
  3. Layer half of the cheese mixture, caramelized onions, and tomato slices on two bread slices. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Top with the remaining cheese and cover with the other bread slices, buttered side out.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
