- 2 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 large egg
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with heart-shaped cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
Notes
- Chilling the dough helps the cookies keep their shape.
- Decorate only after cookies are completely cooled.
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
