Description

Creamy, comforting homemade butter chicken simmered in a rich tomato butter sauce with warm spices and tender chicken pieces.


Ingredients

  • 500 g boneless chicken, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 400 g tomato puree
  • 120 ml heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add vegetable oil and butter, allowing the butter to melt gently.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until soft and lightly golden.
  4. Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking briefly until fragrant.
  5. Add garam masala, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, sugar, and salt, stirring well.
  6. Pour in tomato puree and simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Add chicken pieces and cook until tender and fully cooked.
  8. Lower the heat, add heavy cream, and stir until smooth and creamy.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Keep heat low after adding cream to prevent curdling.
  • The flavors deepen if the dish rests for a few minutes before serving.
