Description
A soft and buttery marble loaf cake with beautiful swirls of vanilla and chocolate flavors. Perfect for tea time, breakfast, or as a simple yet elegant dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk (room temperature)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder and hot water to form a smooth paste. Stir 1/3 of the batter into the cocoa mixture.
- Spoon half the plain batter into the loaf pan, then add the chocolate batter on top, followed by the remaining plain batter. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together for a marble effect.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Do not over-swirl the batters or the marble effect will blend too much.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Add chocolate chips for an extra indulgent version.
