- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup cooked breakfast sausage, finely crumbled
- Optional: additional maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a muffin tin or line with muffin liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, maple syrup, egg, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the cooked crumbled sausage.
- Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with extra maple syrup if desired.

- You can substitute turkey sausage for a lighter option.
