Description
Norwegian meatballs in rich brown gravy, a traditional Scandinavian comfort food made from a mixture of ground beef and pork, seasoned and simmered to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g ground beef
- 500g ground pork
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, bread crumbs, allspice, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Gradually add in milk and mix to combine.
- Using wet hands, form mixture into small golf ball-sized meatballs.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Melt a bit of butter and brown meatballs on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Add flour to the drippings in the skillet and cook, stirring constantly, until it starts to brown.
- Slowly add in beef broth and heavy cream while stirring. Season to taste.
- Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let them simmer in the gravy for 15-20 minutes.
- Serve warm with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce if you like.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, blend the ground meat mixture in a food processor.
- Serve with boiled or mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce for a traditional meal.
- If you want thinner gravy, add more broth; for a thicker sauce, reduce it further.
