Description

Quick & Easy Homemade KFC-Style Chicken is a flavorful, crispy fried chicken recipe inspired by the famous KFC blend of herbs and spices. It’s perfect for satisfying fast food cravings right at home.


Ingredients

  • 8 pieces of chicken (drumsticks, thighs, or breasts)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, basil, oregano, celery salt, salt, black pepper, white pepper, ground ginger, and mustard powder.
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the chicken pieces in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Fry each piece for 12–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp should reach 165°F / 74°C).
  6. Drain the fried chicken on a wire rack or paper towels. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure oil stays at the right temperature.
  • For extra crispy chicken, double dip in buttermilk and flour mixture before frying.
  • Let the chicken rest before serving to retain juiciness and crispiness.
