Description

Decadent and indulgent, Red Velvet French Toast combines the rich cocoa flavor of red velvet cake with the crispy, custardy texture of classic French toast — perfect for brunch or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices red velvet cake or red velvet bread (or brioche with red velvet flavoring)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Butter or oil, for cooking
  • Cream cheese glaze or whipped cream, for topping
  • Fresh berries and powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a bit of butter or oil.
  3. Dip each slice of red velvet bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Place the soaked slices on the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Serve warm with a drizzle of cream cheese glaze or a dollop of whipped cream. Top with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old red velvet cake or bread for better texture.
  • A simple cream cheese glaze can be made by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  • This dish can also be baked in a casserole style for serving a crowd.
