Description

Roasted Parmesan Creamed Onions are tender, caramelized onions baked in a rich cream sauce and topped with melted Parmesan cheese. This savory side dish pairs perfectly with holiday roasts or any comfort meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs small yellow or pearl onions, peeled
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Toss the peeled onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes, until softened and lightly caramelized.
  3. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the heavy cream with minced garlic, nutmeg (if using), and half of the Parmesan cheese. Simmer gently for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Transfer the roasted onions to the prepared baking dish and pour the cream mixture over them.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese is golden brown.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use pearl onions for a more elegant presentation.
  • You can prepare this dish a day ahead and bake just before serving.
  • For extra flavor, add a handful of breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan on top before baking.
