Description
Old-fashioned, fair-style lemonade that’s bright, sweet, and wildly refreshing, made with freshly squeezed lemons and a quick simple syrup for perfect balance every time.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large lemons, about 1 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup warm water, for dissolving sugar
- 4 cups cold water
- 2 cups ice cubes
- 2 to 3 lemon slices, for garnish
Instructions
- Roll lemons on the counter to release juice, then cut and juice until you have about 1 cup.
- Whisk 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 cup warm water in a bowl until the sugar fully dissolves.
- Pour the sugar mixture into a large pitcher.
- Add the fresh lemon juice and 4 cups cold water, then stir to combine.
- Add 2 cups ice cubes and stir or shake vigorously until frothy and well chilled.
- Slip in 2 to 3 lemon slices for extra flavor.
- Taste and adjust with a splash more water or sugar if desired, then pour into ice-filled glasses and serve.
Notes
- Note: Chill the pitcher first to keep the lemonade colder longer.
- For sparkle, replace 1 to 2 cups of cold water with chilled sparkling water just before serving.
- Muddle a few mint leaves with the lemon slices for a fragrant twist.
- Freeze leftover lemonade in molds for popsicles or in trays for drink cubes.
