Description
Steak and Queso Rice is a flavorful one-pan dish featuring tender, seasoned steak strips served over rice and smothered in creamy, melty queso. A comforting and satisfying meal perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup queso dip (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional, for garnish)
- Lime wedges for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the steak slices with olive oil, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let sit for 10 minutes (optional for extra flavor).
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat.
- Warm the queso in a microwave-safe bowl or small saucepan until hot and pourable.
- Divide the cooked rice among plates or bowls.
- Top each portion with steak, drizzle with warm queso, and garnish with cilantro and tomatoes if desired.
- Serve with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- You can substitute steak with grilled chicken or ground beef.
- Use flavored rice (like cilantro-lime or Spanish rice) for extra punch.
- Queso blanco, nacho cheese, or pepper jack-based queso all work well.
