Description

Juicy steak, velvety cheesy mashed potatoes, and a rich garlic mushroom cream sauce come together in this comforting, flavor-packed dish perfect for cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 steaks (approx. 250g each)
  • 500g potatoes (Yukon Gold or Maris Piper)
  • 100g sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 100ml milk
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 250g chestnut or cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 150ml double cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat your skillet over medium-high for about 5 minutes.
  2. Boil peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, around 15-20 minutes. Grate cheese and mince garlic while waiting.
  3. In a sauté pan, heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add garlic and mushrooms. Cook until golden and fragrant, about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Stir cream into the mushrooms, simmer until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper. For the mash, drain potatoes and mash with butter, milk, and cheese.
  5. Season steak with salt and pepper. In a hot skillet, sear each side for 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
  6. Let steak rest for 5 minutes. Slice and top with mushroom sauce and chopped parsley.
  7. Plate cheesy mash, sliced steak, and creamy mushroom sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Let steak come to room temperature before cooking for even results.
  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melt and flavor in the mash.
  • Warm the milk before adding it to mashed potatoes to maintain smooth texture.
