Description

Tender Swedish meatballs simmered in a creamy, rich gravy, served over fluffy mashed potatoes with a touch of lingonberry jam for that perfect sweet-savory balance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g ground beef
  • 250g ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter (plus extra as needed)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lingonberry jam (for serving)
  • Mashed potatoes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, soak the breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef, ground pork, egg, onion, garlic, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add butter. Form meatballs and brown them in batches. Set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt a bit more butter if needed. Add flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet.
  7. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until meatballs are fully cooked and sauce is rich.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam.

Notes

  • Use a cookie scoop for evenly sized meatballs.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan while browning.
  • Make the meatballs a day ahead to save time.
  • Cranberry sauce can replace lingonberry jam if needed.
