Description
A cozy, cheesy baked dumpling lasagna made with layers of dumpling wrappers, rich beef marinara, creamy ricotta, and melty mozzarella for a fun twist on classic comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 24 dumpling wrappers
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, then drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in marinara sauce, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, remaining 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Spoon a thin layer of the beef marinara mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange 6 dumpling wrappers in an even layer, slightly overlapping if needed. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the wrappers, then add one-third of the beef sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers two more times. Finish with the remaining dumpling wrappers, the last of the sauce, the remaining mozzarella, and all of the parmesan cheese.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for 15 minutes more, until bubbly and lightly golden.
- Let the dish rest for 10 minutes, then top with chopped fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a thick marinara sauce for cleaner layers.
- Let the baked dish rest before slicing so it holds together better.
- Shred your own mozzarella for smoother melting.
- You can assemble the dish up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking.
