- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 2 cups green beans
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and prepare all ingredients.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into oval patties.
- Add olive oil to the skillet and brown the patties for about 4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- Melt butter in the same skillet. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until softened and browned.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and whisk well.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth, then stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and Dijon mustard.
- Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes until cooked through and coated in thick gravy.
- Sprinkle parsley over the top and serve hot with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef mixture or the patties may become tough.
- Allow the patties to brown properly for deeper flavor.
- Add broth slowly while whisking to keep the gravy smooth.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
