Description

Juicy Salisbury steak patties simmered in a rich mushroom onion gravy and served with creamy mashed potatoes and green beans for the ultimate comforting dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 cups green beans

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and prepare all ingredients.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into oval patties.
  3. Add olive oil to the skillet and brown the patties for about 4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. Melt butter in the same skillet. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until softened and browned.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and whisk well.
  6. Slowly whisk in beef broth, then stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and Dijon mustard.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes until cooked through and coated in thick gravy.
  8. Sprinkle parsley over the top and serve hot with mashed potatoes and green beans.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef mixture or the patties may become tough.
  • Allow the patties to brown properly for deeper flavor.
  • Add broth slowly while whisking to keep the gravy smooth.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
