Description
A refreshing iced green tea drink with homemade cherry syrup, lemon, vanilla, and a sweet pie-inspired finish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup frozen pitted cherries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 pinch fine salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups brewed green tea, chilled
- 1 cup ice
- 1/4 cup fresh cherries, optional garnish
Instructions
- Place a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the frozen cherries, granulated sugar, water, and salt to the saucepan.
- Stir gently, then mash the cherries lightly as they soften.
- Simmer for about 10 minutes, until the mixture looks glossy and the cherry juices have deepened.
- Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing the cherries to capture as much liquid as possible.
- Stir in the lemon juice and vanilla extract, then let the syrup cool.
- Fill two glasses with ice, add 2 tablespoons cherry syrup to each glass, pour in chilled green tea, stir, and garnish with fresh cherries if desired.
Notes
- Use chilled green tea so the drink stays crisp and refreshing.
- Add the syrup slowly and taste before adding more.
- Do not over-steep the green tea, or it may taste bitter.
- The cherry syrup can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 5 days.
