Description
A quick and fun hot dog recipe made with spiral-cut hot dogs, crisp romaine lettuce, soft buns, and yellow mustard for a classic cookout-style bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
- 8 soft hot dog buns
- 8 romaine lettuce leaves, washed and dried well
- 1/3 cup yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Heat a skillet, grill pan, or outdoor grill over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Place the hot dogs on a cutting board. Slide a wooden skewer through each one, then carefully cut around each hot dog in a spiral pattern. Remove the skewers after cutting.
- Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to the skillet or lightly oil the grill grates.
- Place one dry romaine lettuce leaf inside each bun.
- Add the spiral-cut hot dogs to the heated surface. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning often with tongs, until hot throughout and lightly browned along the edges.
- Place one cooked hot dog into each lettuce-lined bun.
- Sprinkle lightly with black pepper, then drizzle the yellow mustard evenly over all 8 servings.
- Serve warm right away.
Notes
- Use medium heat so the hot dogs brown without burning.
- Dry the lettuce well before assembling to keep the buns from getting soggy.
- Toast the buns lightly for extra texture.
- Add mustard right before serving for the freshest flavor.
