Description

A quick and fun hot dog recipe made with spiral-cut hot dogs, crisp romaine lettuce, soft buns, and yellow mustard for a classic cookout-style bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 8 soft hot dog buns
  • 8 romaine lettuce leaves, washed and dried well
  • 1/3 cup yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet, grill pan, or outdoor grill over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Place the hot dogs on a cutting board. Slide a wooden skewer through each one, then carefully cut around each hot dog in a spiral pattern. Remove the skewers after cutting.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to the skillet or lightly oil the grill grates.
  4. Place one dry romaine lettuce leaf inside each bun.
  5. Add the spiral-cut hot dogs to the heated surface. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning often with tongs, until hot throughout and lightly browned along the edges.
  6. Place one cooked hot dog into each lettuce-lined bun.
  7. Sprinkle lightly with black pepper, then drizzle the yellow mustard evenly over all 8 servings.
  8. Serve warm right away.

Notes

  • Use medium heat so the hot dogs brown without burning.
  • Dry the lettuce well before assembling to keep the buns from getting soggy.
  • Toast the buns lightly for extra texture.
  • Add mustard right before serving for the freshest flavor.
