Description

Tender smothered chicken simmered in creamy onion gravy and served over fluffy rice for the ultimate comforting family dinner.


Ingredients

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 cups uncooked long grain white rice
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to package instructions using chicken broth instead of water.
  2. Season chicken thighs with paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook chicken thighs for about 5 minutes per side until golden brown, then remove from skillet.
  5. Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
  6. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the onions and whisk well.
  8. Slowly whisk in heavy cream until the gravy becomes smooth.
  9. Return chicken to the skillet and spoon gravy over the top.
  10. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes until chicken is tender and fully cooked.
  11. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve over warm rice.

Notes

  • Use freshly cracked black pepper for deeper flavor.
  • Add mushrooms for extra richness and texture.
  • If the gravy becomes too thick, add a splash of chicken broth.
