Description
Juicy beef burgers layered with melted cheddar cheese, crisp vegetables, and creamy sauce between tender caramelized onion buns for a savory low-carb twist on a classic favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced into thick rounds
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 8 pickle slices
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Shape into 4 patties.
- Add thick onion rounds to the skillet and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side until softened and caramelized.
- Move onions to the side and cook burger patties for about 4 minutes per side.
- Add cheddar cheese during the last minute of cooking so it melts.
- Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard for the burger sauce.
- Assemble burgers using onion rounds as buns, then layer lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheesy patties, and sauce.
- Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use thick onion slices so they stay sturdy while cooking.
- Sweet onions work best for natural caramelized flavor.
- Do not press the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.
- Extra sauce can be served on the side for dipping.
