Description

Crispy chicken fries coated in a glossy homemade orange sauce with the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and citrusy flavors. These crunchy fries are fun to eat, incredibly satisfying, and perfect for dinner, appetizers, or game day snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds boneless chicken thighs, cut into fry-shaped strips
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • ¾ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F. Place a wire rack over a baking sheet nearby.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Place the beaten eggs in a separate bowl.
  4. Dip the chicken strips into the eggs, then coat thoroughly in the dry mixture.
  5. Fry the chicken strips in batches for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to the wire rack.
  6. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and minced garlic.
  7. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
  8. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce becomes thick and glossy.
  9. Toss the crispy chicken fries in the orange sauce until evenly coated.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for the brightest flavor.
  • Fry the chicken in batches to keep the coating crispy.
  • Toss the chicken with sauce just before serving for the best texture.
  • For extra heat, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
