  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • ¼ cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, whole milk, and hot coffee until combined.
  4. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cupcakes to cool completely on a cooling rack.
  8. Beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually mix in powdered sugar.
  9. Add caramel sauce and heavy cream, then continue beating until the frosting becomes fluffy and smooth.
  10. Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes, drizzle with extra caramel sauce, and top with chocolate shavings before serving.
